Guwahati, Mar 1: Home Minister Amit Shah’s announcement on implementation of CAA before the Lok Sabha election has led to series of protests across Assam.
On Thursday, ten activists of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti and Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti were detained in Dhubri, Tinsukia and Hailakandi districts for staging protests.
Five activists were detained by the police at Hailakandi, who were latter released.
Four other KMSS activists were detained in Tinsukia district who are yet to be released.
In Guwahati, too, the KMSS staged a sit-in demonstration against CAA.
Assam witnessed many violent protests soon after CAA became a law in December 2019. The re-emergence of protests against the CAA in Assam signifies a persistent struggle between the state’s desire to preserve its cultural identity and the central government’s legislative actions.
