SHILLONG, APR 29: National People’s Party (NPP) leader and cabinet minister Abu Taher Mondal on Monday expressed confidence that his party will retain Tura parliamentary seat.
First phase elections to the 18th Lok Sabha in Tura and Shillong constituencies were held on April 19 and counting will be held on June 4.
“As far as I am concerned, we are winning. Our candidate (Agatha K Sangma) is winning,” Mondal told reporters when sought for his assessment on the recently concluded elections.
Asked about the Shillong seat, the minister however said, “I don’t have fair knowledge about Khasi Hills but friends are telling it is squarely poised but in Garo Hills, we are winning.”
“It is difficult to say but it will be a normal margin. We always believe that the margin should be big but in elections if you win by one vote also you are winning,” he added.
According to him, there was a sudden shifting of TMC voters to Congress during the elections.
