Marcuise, Agatha launch PKMSY projects
Tura, January 30: Member of the Parliament, Lok Sabha Agatha K Sangma launched the PKMSY-WDC-2.0 GIMI Watershed at Rongadatgre, Demdema, Community and Rural Development Block, West Garo Hills on Monday in the presence of Soil and Water Conservation Minister, Government of Meghalaya Marcuise N Marak, Officials of the department and people of the area.
Speaking during the launching programme, Agatha K Sangma highlighted the importance of various developmental schemes and activities being implemented across the State which is expected to uplift the economic conditions of the people in the state in future. Pointing out the issues and ill-effects of Arecanut plantation, etc she emphasized on the need to focus on agriculture, horticulture, and preservation of natural resources in the region.
The Minister for Soil and Water Conservation, Marcuise N Marak mentioned that the PMKSY is a centrally sponsored scheme with major public investment targeting sustainable production for natural resources management and livelihood activities. He further mentioned that the project was funded by DOLR, MoRD, Government of India, under the Soil and Water Conservation Department.
Further, the scheme has the objective of combating drastic climate change in the region and preserving water sources, increased agricultural activity for upliftment of rural livelihoods. Moreover, informing about the target of reaching the 10 billion economy by the year 2028 under the leadership of the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, he said that these are the steps undertaken to achieve the target as envisioned by the Chief Minister in the years to come.
Meanwhile, the Divisional, Soil and Water conservation Officer, Tura Charseng Marak mentioned about the provisions of the scheme stating that it comprises of Livelihood and Micro Enterprise which is a revolving fund for Self Help Groups, Production System for individual farmers and others including training programmes, etc.
Earlier, during the function, the chief Guest distributed cheques to Self Help Groups of the area.
