GUWAHATI, April 29: The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), a key ally of the NDA government in Assam, unveiled its election manifesto on Tuesday for the upcoming panchayat elections scheduled on May 2 and 7. The release event took place at the party’s headquarters in Ambari, Guwahati, and was led by AGP general secretary and former minister Kamala Kalita.
Releasing the manifesto, Kalita outlined the party’s vision to empower rural communities through robust and dynamic panchayat institutions. “The focus is on decentralizing power, improving essential infrastructure, and ensuring last-mile delivery of services in rural Assam,” Kalita said.
Key promises in the manifesto include upgradation of rural roads and development of efficient transport and communication systems, regular electrification and clean drinking water supply to every household, establishment of skill development centres and community service hubs across rural areas, rollout of high-speed internet to boost digital connectivity and inclusion and improved access to quality education and healthcare facilities.

The AGP also pledged to focus on youth and women’s employment, promising to expand existing rural job schemes and introduce new livelihood opportunities. The manifesto puts strong emphasis on enhancing farm productivity and income, with targeted support for farmers and agri-based industries.
Highlighting governance reforms, the party assured the implementation of village assemblies (gram sabhas) as a grassroots mechanism to address local issues and monitor development. The AGP also reiterated its commitment to transparent, corruption-free panchayat institutions, ensuring equal development across all regions of Assam.
Senior party leaders including general secretary Manoj Saikia, vice-president Bishnu Das, secretary Prince Faizul Haque, office secretary Nrip Kumar Phukan, and law cell convener Parth Pratim Medhi were also present during the launch.
The AGP, a regional force with deep roots in Assam’s socio-political landscape, is looking to strengthen its grassroots presence through this election, with promises of meaningful reform and rural upliftment at the core of its campaign.
