Tura, Nov 23: The Gasuapara unit of AHAM conducted an inspection of a recently constructed water tank as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Gasuapara village, South Garo Hills, on Thursday.
During the visit, AHAM’s General Secretary, Clinton R. Marak, explained that they responded to complaints from Gasuapara villagers who reported issues with the construction of water tanks and pipelines. It was observed that the construction work was not carried out according to necessary guidelines, leading to a lack of proper water supply to numerous households.
On the complaints from villagers regarding insufficient water supply despite the installation of pipes, Marak pointed out that, in some areas, most pipes were above ground and not adequately connected. In the Gasuapara area, households closer to the water tank received water, while those farther away did not.
Marak further highlighted that, although most households had received pipes, the absence of taps or platforms was one of the major issues with all such projects.
AHAM has urged the Chokpot Civil Sub-division Officer to ensure that construction work on water tanks and pipelines adheres to proper standards, thereby benefiting the residents in the area.
