Guwahati, May 16: Assam just made history with a digital twist.
In a move that blends tradition with cutting-edge tech, the state government has unveiled Ankita—a lifelike artificial intelligence (AI)-powered anchor—to present Cabinet meeting highlights in Assamese, marking a first-of-its-kind initiative in Indian governance communication.

The announcement came through a slick video posted by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on social media platform X.
Ankita—complete with expressive facial features, confident gestures, and a fluent Assamese voice—delivered the latest Cabinet updates as if she’d been reading the news for years.

From the Cabinet’s decision to rename Dibrugarh Airport after the legendary Bhupen Hazarika to approving special time grants for tea garden workers, Ankita delivered each update with poise and precision, rivalling her human counterparts in tone and clarity.
This debut marks a broader push by the Assam government to integrate digital tools into public services, positioning the state at the forefront of AI adoption in India’s administrative landscape.
