AIUDF chief Ajmal slams BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi, demands apology for ‘mini-Bangladeshi’ remark on Dhubri

GUWAHATI, March 23: AIUDF supremo and former MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal has strongly condemned BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi’s recent statement in the Rajya Sabha, where he allegedly referred to Assam’s Dhubri as a “mini-Bangladeshi” area. Ajmal has demanded an apology from Trivedi, asserting that the remark is not only misleading but also an insult to the people of Assam, particularly Dhubri.

Expressing his anger in a video message, Ajmal said, “I am deeply saddened by the comment made by Sudhanshu Trivedi, who is an educated man. But calling Dhubri a mini-Bangladeshi is completely unacceptable. I represented Dhubri for 15 years, and his words have deeply disturbed me. It shows that he has no knowledge of Assam, its people, or its geography.”

“Dhubri has made significant contributions to Assam, and the state’s security is linked to its well-being,” he said.

Ajmal also criticized Trivedi for making statements without proper research. “A learned man like him should do his homework before making such remarks. His words have humiliated not only the people of Dhubri but the entire state of Assam. I strongly condemn his statement,” he added.

Taking a dig at the BJP, Ajmal questioned their contribution to Dhubri’s development. “What has the BJP done for Dhubri’s growth? What steps have they taken to improve education in the region? Nothing. They ignore this area simply because they perceive its people as Bangladeshis,” he alleged.

Raising concerns about security in border areas, Ajmal further said, “If security is a concern, where are the necessary measures? Where is the border post? Where is the army? Everything has failed.”

Ajmal also aimed Congress leader Rakibul Hussain, questioning his silence on the issue.

“Sudhanshu Trivedi has been making such statements in the Rajya Sabha for several days.

Where is Rakibul Hussain? Why hasn’t he countered these remarks?” he asked.

He concluded by reiterating his demand for an apology. “I urge Sudhanshu Trivedi to admit his mistake and apologize to the people of Assam and Dhubri. I also call on Rakibul Hussain to seek forgiveness for his silence on this matter.”
