GUWAHATI, Dec 2: The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has expelled its MLA from Algapur constituency, Nizamuddin Choudhury, for six years over allegations of anti-party activities.
The decision was taken by the party’s steering committee and announced on Monday through a formal statement.
Choudhury was accused of leaning towards the Congress since the last Lok Sabha elections and openly rebelling against party supremo Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, the former MP and AIUDF president.
A formal expulsion letter, signed by Hafiz Basir Ahmed Kashimi, the party’s general secretary (administration) and AIUDFLP leader, was sent to Choudhury. The expulsion was executed under Article XVIII(A)(iii) of the AIUDF constitution.
Party sources said Choudhury had been issued a show-cause notice on May 16, with a five-day deadline to respond. His comments during the Lok Sabha elections, including a statement that the AIUDF would “be finished” after the election results, further exacerbated tensions.
Controversial Statements and Allegiances
During the last Lok Sabha elections, Choudhury stirred controversy by appearing at a press conference addressed by Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah in the Barak Valley, signaling his alignment with the Congress. This move was deemed a direct challenge to AIUDF leadership and policies.
