Nongpoh, Sept 12: Following the arrest of 4 highway robbers in Ri Bhoi district on Wednesday afternoon, four more robbers landed behind the bars on Wednesday night thanks to alert villagers.
At around 9 PM on Wednesday night, residents of Umnget village noticed an attempted robbery near the local wine shops, where four individuals were trying to rob a parked truck. The villagers quickly mobilized and pursued the robbers, who were attempting to flee in an auto-rickshaw.
The chase ended in Quiñine village, where the robbers were caught and given a sound thrashing. Thereafter, the elders of the village handed them over to Nongpoh Police.
Meanwhile, the driver of the truck, who was assaulted during the robbery attempt, reported that the robbers forcefully entered his vehicle and beat him with the intention of robbing him. Fortunately, he managed to jump out of the truck and called for help.
Highway robberies along the National Highway 06 in Ri Bhoi District have caused alarm among the goods vehicles and trucks, which are usually parked along the highway during the night. Though Ri Bhoi Police has been patrolling the highway, such incidents continue to occur.
On Wednesday morning, special team of Ri Bhoi District managed to arrest four robbers who were involved in robbery cases along National Highway 6.
