Boko, May 2: Congress MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed launched a spirited campaign at Gumi in Chaygaon on Friday, expressing confidence that his party will sweep all seats under the Chaygaon Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC).
During the rally, several local leaders from the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) formally joined the Indian National Congress in the presence of MLA Ahmed, signalling a political shift in the region.
The MLA campaigned for Congress-backed candidates, including Hazarat Ali (Little), contesting for the 4th No. Pub Chamaria Zila Parishad seat, and Mainul Haque, contesting from the Gumi Anchalik Panchayat.

Speaking at the event, Ahmed promised that the kaccha Gumi–Mohgor road would soon be upgraded to an all-weather road. He also pointed to recent infrastructure improvements, such as the new road by the Brahmaputra River, which has enhanced connectivity to Guwahati for residents of Goroimari and Gumi.
Highlighting ongoing development work in the Chaygaon constituency, Ahmed urged voters to support the Congress in every Panchayat to ensure continued progress. “We are committed to inclusive development. There should be no hesitation in voting for Congress if we want every Panchayat to benefit,” he said.
Confident of a clean sweep, Ahmed declared that the Congress would win every seat under the Chaygaon LAC. He also called for peaceful elections, urging people to avoid political conflicts. “Elections come and go, but we all have to live together in harmony,” he reminded the crowd.
