Shillong, Dec 19: Suspended Congress legislators Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh and Mohendro Rapsang on Monday formally joined the National People’s Party (NPP) at a grand ceremony at Madan Iewrynghep here in Shillong.

Welcoming them to the party, Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP Supremo Conrad K. Sangma said it is a historic day for the State because of the faces of the individuals who are aligning with the NPP for the state and its people.
“We need to work shoulder-to-shoulder together to take this beautiful state of us forward. And here we are today, one whole circle around back again to be together to continue the work that these great leaders had started and to take it forward to a logical conclusion. It’s like it was meant to be and that’s why this is a sense of happiness and satisfaction today,” he said.
“People are seeing hope, people are seeing that there are visionary people and yes, it is possible, that one day the state of ours will reach such great heights, maybe it is possible that after 50 years, again, there will be a political party that will get single majority in the assembly,” he added.
He e also mentioned that in the last 5 years, the government has faced numerous challenges which were very hard and rigid, however, the government always kept going and kept tackling with them strongly and brilliantly.
“When these challenges came in front, there was only one thing that guided us. One thing only and that is the people of our state. We resolved every time in anything and everything we do will be for the people of our state. The interests of the people of our state is paramount to us, and nothing else comes close to that. And that purpose is what drove us to ensure that sometimes tough decisions were taken. Sometimes, we also decided that we need to listen to the will of the people, we decided to talk to the people, communicate with them. But always, keeping the interest of the people in mind,” he said.
He further stated that the length of the new roads constructed in 5 years is far beyond the roads constructed in the last 20 years. “We have been able to give more water supply scheme. We have been able to save lives of mothers and children like never before where mothers used to lose their lives while giving birth and bringing life into this world, we made sure we make the effort to ensure that we try to bring it down and in the last two and a half years the GDP of the state has crossed eight percent which was the highest ever and higher than most of the states in the country in the last 10 years,” informed the CM.
Sangma also mentioned that the dignitaries who have joined the NPP are the kind of leaders who have joined with the same hope, dream, vision that one day they will be able to resolve issues, the big issues that were never possible before.
