Ampati, Oct 25: It was powerful celebration of fitness, sportsmanship, and cleanliness at Ampati as the air buzzed with excitement.

Altogether 675 runners, young and old, gathered at the Indoor Stadium in Ampati for the much-awaited “Fit India Swachhta Freedom Run”. The event was organized by the District Sports Office, South West Garo Hills, the event was held under the joint initiatives of Fit India, Khelo India, and the Swachhata Hi Seva mission.

Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak, a strong advocate of the event, cheered for the participants and later awarded prizes to the exceptional athletes in both men’s and women’s categories.

In a thrilling showdown, Bowash K. Sangma of Williamnagar stole the spotlight in the men’s division, blazing through the 10-km course in an impressive 15 minutes and 46 seconds. Right on his heels was Bhishmadev Hajong from Marpara village, followed closely by Tuebirth Ch. Sangma of Gambegre village, who claimed the second and third spots.

The women’s race was no less captivating. Neha M. Marak from Muji Agalgre proved unstoppable, completing her run in a remarkable 18 minutes and 45 seconds. Not far behind, Ringsechimik G. Sangma from Chigitchakgre and Dimchi Ch. Marak from Wagi Chiring sprinted their way to the podium, taking second and third place, respectively.

Deputy Commissioner Nayak praised the inspiring turnout, underscoring how events like these not only promote fitness but also embed a sense of community pride in cleanliness and health. “Today’s run is a testament to our district’s commitment to fitness and a cleaner, greener future,” she remarked.

The “Fit India Swachhta Freedom Run” is not only a celebration of physical endurance but also a rallying point for local communities to embrace healthier and more active lifestyles while contributing to the vision of a cleaner and healthier India.
