Shillong, April 3: Meghalaya government has declared that all state government offices, revenue and magisterial courts, as well as educational institutions in the East Khasi Hills district will remain closed on April 7, 2025, on account of Shad Suk Mynsiem, one of the major festivals of the Khasi community.
In an official notification issued by the Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, General Administration Department, C.V.D. Diengdoh said the local holiday will also apply to all banks and financial institutions in the district under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881.

Shad Suk Mynsiem, meaning ‘dance of the peaceful hearts’, is a significant religious and cultural festival celebrated by followers of the indigenous Khasi religion known as Niam Khasi. Shad Suk Mynsiem is the Khasi way of offering their thanks to the creator for all the blessings and bountiful harvests received – characterized by many symbolic rituals, dances and the best of traditional apparel. It is held during the month of April, the time of Spring. Spring is symbolic as a season of rebirth, as is the case in many societies. It signifies the beginning of new cycles during which new seedlings are planted. Shad Suk Mynsiem is an agrarian festival and celebrates the optimism for the coming year.
