Guwahati, Dec 4: A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) has been signed between the Indian Army and the Arunachal Pradesh government, transferring the responsibility for maintaining and managing the Major Ralengnao Bob Khathing Museum of Valor in Tawang to the Indian Army. The agreement was formalized in the presence of Chief Minister Pema Khandu.
Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kangki Darang and Brigadier V.S. Rajput of the 190 Mountain Brigade signed the MoA, marking a significant step in preserving the legacy of Major Bob Khathing and his contributions to Tawang’s history.
Chief Minister Khandu paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister, who played a crucial role in integrating Tawang into India. He highlighted Major Khathing’s historic 1951 mission, which established Indian administrative control over Tawang, previously under Tibetan governance.
“If not for Sardar Patel, Major Bob Khathing, and Assam’s then Governor Daulat Ram, who knows—Tawang and the Monpa people might be under China-controlled Tibet today!” Khandu stated.
Khandu thanked the Indian Army, particularly the 190 Mountain Brigade, for providing defence land for the museum and taking on its management. He assured the government’s full cooperation in supporting the museum’s upkeep whenever required.
The event was attended by Tourism Minister P.D. Sona, legislators Oken Tayeng and Namge Tsering, the Tourism Secretary, commanders of the 106 and 46 Brigades, the Zila Parishad Chairperson of Tawang, senior Army officials, and various department heads.
