Arrested HNLC bodyguard given 10 days police custody

Shillong, Mar 2: The Personal Security Officer (PSO) of the banned militant group Hynniewtrep National Liberal Council (HNLC) who was arrested after sneaking in from Bangladesh has been remanded to 10 days police remand by the District and Session Court of East Khasi Hills on Saturday.

Storgy Lyngdoh was arrested in the early hours of Saturday from his house in Mawlynrei, Khliehshnong in East Khasi Hills for his alleged involvement in serving extortion notices to several business houses in the city.

The accused had entered Meghalaya after sneaking from Bangladesh ostensibly to carry out an extortion drive, reveal police sources.

The leaders of the militant group had discontinued their talks with the government and disappeared from police radar after their demand for withdrawal of all cases against them was not entertained by the government.
