Guwahati, Oct 11: The Assam Rifles have launched a large-scale counter insurgency operation in and around the Manabhum reserve forest in eastern Arunachal’s Changlang district following intelligence reports on the presence of militants of ULFA (Independent) in the area.
Sources said the well-trained ULFA (Independent) group is planning to carry out strikes on security forces and vital installations in Arunachal Pradesh and eastern Assam, and is in possession of sophisticated weapons and Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), by using which it planns to trigger blasts.
Officials said the group consists of 8 to 10 hardcore members led by self-styled Lt. Mriganka Asom.
Meanwhile, the Namsai district administration has asked the villagers not to enter the reserve forest, nor should they carry any kind of arms or ammunition, and avoid wearing camouflage uniform. They have also been advised to carry valid ID cards or Aadhar during movement for identification.
