Arunachal: Camera trap in Namdapha National Park sights tiger

Dibrugarh, Sept 20: Good news for the nature lovers, a tiger was sighted in Arunachal Pradesh’s Namdapha National Park on August 6,2024.

A tiger was captured in the camera traps deployed at Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve in Arunachal Pradesh under the guidance of V.K Jawal, CF & Field Director, Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve.

“We are thrilled to announce that on August 6, 2024, a magnificent Tiger was captured in the camera traps deployed by our dedicated team at Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve under the guidance of V. K. Jawal, IFS, CF & Field Director, Namdapha National Park & Tiger Reserve. This exciting sighting underscores the tireless conservation efforts in the region and highlights the thriving biodiversity of this unique ecosystem,” said an forest official of Namdapha National Park.

He said, “These camera trap images of the tiger not only serve as a reminder of the incredible wildlife that inhabits the park but also reinforces our commitment to preserving their natural habitat. The dedicated team of Namdapha continues to monitor the health and population of this majestic species as part of ongoing conservation initiatives,”.

“We extend our sincere thanks to the fringe villages for their active support to our efforts in protecting these vital ecosystems and their inhabitants. Together, we can ensure a brighter future for wildlife in Namdapha and beyond,” the official said.

In 2023, three tigers were camera traps in Namdapha National Park.

This year in August, the authority of the Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve (NNP & TR) has issued an advisory regarding the movement of tigers in the fringe areas of the park. The advisory confirmed evidence of tiger movement in the Songking-I village area in the Miao circle.

Namdapha National park was declared the country’s 15th tiger project in 1983.

The park is spread over 1,985 sq km but it has 245 km as buffer area.

Unique geography, high annual precipitation and varied topography have made Namdapha a floral diversity.

Namdapha has 137 species of mammals, moths, butterflies and various fauna, which makes it a biodiversity hotspot in eastern Himalaya.
