Guwahati, June 7: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on Monday informed that five persons have been arrested in connection with the firing incident at Panbari in Dhemaji district of Assam.
Talking to media persons, Kandu said, “Five people have been arrested so far. Three were arrested last night and another two were arrested today morning.”
Pema Khandu further clarified that the firing incident at Panbari in Dhemaji district of Assam was not related to border disputes between the two states.
“This firing incident is not related to the border issues between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. It was rather a personal dispute between the accused and victims,” he said.
Assam DGP GP Singh tweeted, “Reference the firing incident at the Assam-Arunachal border in Dhemaji & Gogamukh PS case No. 63/23 u/s 147/148/302/326/307 IPC r/w 25 (1) (a)/27 (3) of Arms Act – Arunachal Police has arrested 5 accused persons. Assam Police would take them in custody following due procedure.”
On Monday, two persons were reportedly shot dead and others sustained bullet injury in an incident of firing along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border at Panbari in Dhemaji. The deceased have been identified as Boga Churia and Monitur Gogoi of Dhemaji.
According to reports, a group of armed men from Arunachal Pradesh came and opened fire on the people on the Assam side who were planting saplings on the occasion of World Environment Day.
