Itanagar, July 31: In a significant move to empower the youth of Arunachal Pradesh, the BJP-led state government has announced a scholarship scheme for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate courses in top global universities.
The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Chowna Mein while presenting the state budget in the Assembly on Wednesday.
The Innovative Arunachal Pradesh Scholarship for Academic Excellence Scheme will provide financial support to APST students gaining admission to the top 150 global universities, as per QS World University Rankings. The scholarship will cover 75% of tuition fees, on-campus residence fees, airfare, and medical insurance premium charges.
Additionally, the state government will also cover 75% of training fees for obtaining commercial pilot licenses from recognized government institutes, aiming to support up to 10 youths in the coming years. This initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to fulfil the aspirations of its youth, women, and farmers, declaring 2024-25 as the “Year of Youth”.
