Itanagar, Sep 4: The Arunachal Pradesh police arrested a 50-year-old teacher of a private school in Lower Subansiri district on Sunday for allegedly molesting and raping several students.

According to police, the principal of the school in Hapoli was also arrested for not taking any action despite having knowledge of the crime.

“The accused has allegedly raped at least two-three students of classes 5 and 6. Based on an FIR lodged by a parent, the accused was arrested,” said a police official.

He said, “A case has been registered with the women’s police station at Hapoli under the POSCO Act.  Further investigation has been going on”.

In November last year, a hostel warden of a school in Shi-Yomi district was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting six boys and 15 girls, six of whom were raped.

Meanwhile, police have taken immediate action and arrested the main accused.

A conscious citizen of Arunachal Pradesh criticised the incident and demanded capital punishment for the accused.
