Arunachal Pradesh: Education main focus in 2025

Itanagar, March 19: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said this year’s main focus is investing in human capital, particularly in overhauling the education system.

He assured that no effort would be spared in improving the State’s education sector. He also informed that Rs 3,000 crore has been allocated to the education department for this purpose, with additional funds to be provided if needed to achieve the desired transformation.

He said this while attending the 5th Siang Unying Giidi Festival 2025 at Giidi Ground, Boleng, along with Education Minister P. D. Sona, on March 18, when they celebrated the festival with the Adi community.

The festival marks the arrival of spring and the beginning of the cultivation season.

In his address, Mein expressed his joy in being part of the celebration and highlighted its significance in promoting nature conservation and biodiversity. He emphasized the importance of preserving the region’s rich environment and urged the community to uphold their ancestral commitment to sustainability by protecting natural resources.

He proposed that the festival be recognized as a conservation festival, celebrating both the arrival of spring and the start of the new cultivation season. He also encouraged the younger generation to embrace its deeper significance, which reflects the Adi community’s profound respect for nature and their responsibility to safeguard it for future generations.

“We, the tribal people, are nature dwellers and have lived in harmony with the environment for time immemorial. We must maintain this legacy through collective efforts and preserve nature for future generations,” Mein stated.

Discussing the State budget, he affirmed that it is designed to fulfil the aspirations of the people and ensure inclusive growth. He emphasized that the budget aims to benefit all sections of society, including women, youth, and marginalized communities.

The Deputy Chief Minister thanked Minister for Panchayat Raj, Rural Development, Transport & Cooperation Ojing Tasing for the invitation and commended the organizers and the people of Boleng for their dedication to preserving their rich cultural heritage. He acknowledged the festival’s remarkable growth over time and praised the efforts of those ensuring its continuity and success.

The festival showcased vibrant cultural performances, including the Mithun Fight (Hobo Molik), Mega Dance, Tapu (war dance), and traditional folk performances by DPYK Boleng, reflecting the region’s rich heritage.

The dignitaries also visited the Mihum Kumhung Museum, which offered deep insights into the history of the Adi community through its collection of artefacts, pottery, costumes, and archival photographs. Additionally, they explored indigenous stalls featuring intricately handcrafted textiles, traditional ornaments, and local delicacies.

The festival was also attended by MLA Basar, Nyabi Jini Dirchi; MLA Aalo (West), Topin Ete; MLA Rumgong, Talem Tabo; MLA Geru-Mariyang, Oni Panyang; MLA Dambuk, Punyo Apum; MLA Nari-Koyu, Tojir Kadu; MLA Pasighat, Tapi Darang, and former Ministers Tamiyo Taga and Tahung Tatak, among others.
