Arunachal Pradesh: Five arrested for gangrape of minor for 5-days in Daporijo

Itanagar, Aug 19: As the nation demands for stringent security laws for doctors and females in view of the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata, another shocking incident of gangrape of a minor has come to light from Arunachal Pradesh.

The case involves 5 people’s involvement in the alleged illegal confinement and rape of a 13-year-old girl over a period of 5 days in Arunachal Pradesh’s Daporijo.

According to reports, the incident happened a fortnight before the rape and murder of a doctor at the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9, and came to light only a couple of days ago after protests over the Kolkata incident.

The five accused has been identified as- Bali Kaji, Tapong Baring, Raju Lomdak, Jepu Leya alias Jack Sorum and Nanesh Nayam.

They are in judicial custody after the expiry of their police remand.

According to police, the girl’s brother filed a FIR alleging that she was illegally confined to a place in Daporijo’s Gandhi market for five days and raped.

“We arrested the prime accused on the day we registered the case. The other four were arrested after interrogating him. After a medical examination, the minor victim was handed over to her parents,” said police official.

The five were booked under relevant Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
