Itanagar, May 22: Mountaineer Kabak Yano has brought laurels for Arunachal Pradesh and made history by becoming the first woman from the Nyishi tribe to successfully climb Mount Everest, the worlds highest peak at 8,848.86 meters.
Kabak Yano, former state-level woman cricketer became the youngest female from the Northeastern states of the country to achieve this feat.
Yano reached the summit at 11.50 am on Tuesday (May 21) along with fellow climbers Babu Sherpa, Ngima Dorjee Sherpa, Subhash Rai, Lakpa Nurbu Sherpa, and Shere Sherpa from Nepal.
She has completed the Basic Mountaineering Course from the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) in Darjeeling.
Peak Promotion, a government-recognised leading trekking and mountaineering agency in Nepal confirmed this feat.
Kabak Yano hails from Kamle district, is a student of the Rashtriya Raksha University, Pasighat campus and is a member of the state’s women’s cricket team.
