Arunachal Pradesh: Massive weapons cache recovered

Must read

Dibrugarh, Dec 28: In a major breakthrough, security forces recovered a significant cache of weapons near MS 27 along the Miao-Vijaynagar axis in Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh. The joint operation was carried out by the Assam Rifles, the Army under Spear Corps, and local police, utilizing advanced tools such as high-tech drones, tracker dogs, and metal detectors.

“During the operation, ten MQ 81 Chinese-origin assault rifles, also known as Type 81 assault rifles, were recovered from various concealed locations in the forest near MS 27. This marks one of the largest arms recoveries in South Arunachal in recent years,” said an Army official.

The weapons, believed to have been buried by the Eastern Naga National Government (ENNG) before their surrender last year, were sought after by major insurgent groups in the region, including the NSCN (IM) and NSCN (KYA). Intelligence reports suggested that these groups, with the aid of former ENNG cadres, had been attempting to retrieve the cache for over six months.

The meticulous operation was conducted with precision and professionalism. Security forces ensured the safety of tourists in the nearby Namdapha Reserve Forest, who were there for birdwatching, before launching the operation.

“This recovery not only prevents these weapons from falling into the hands of insurgents but also demonstrates our unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region,” the official added.
