Dibrugarh, Dec 26: Two NSCN (IM) cadres were apprehended on Thursday from the Rima area in Changlang district in Arunachal Pradesh.
The arrested individuals were identified as SS Lt. Roney Rai alias Tutu (31), a resident of Jairampur in Changlang, and SS Sgt Major Anong Singpho (30), a resident of Pengri in Tinsukia, Assam.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding extortion activities by NSCN (IM) cadres targeting local businessmen and shopkeepers, a joint operation was launched. The team included personnel from the 11 PARA (Special Forces), 10 Assam Rifles, and Changlang Police, leading to the successful apprehension of the two insurgents.
The operation led to the recovery of one .32 pistol with six rounds of ammunition, a Nagamese sickle (Dah), wallet, PAN card, Tecno mobile phone, and a SIM card.
Sources revealed that NSCN (IM) has been actively involved in extortion across the Tirap, Longding, and Changlang (TLC) districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
“Most businessmen in the TLC region are coerced into paying ‘taxes’ to insurgent groups under threat to their lives,” a source stated.
