Guwahati, Jan 31: In a special anti-narcotics operation, South Salmara Mankachar police arrested a drug peddler and seized drugs from his posession during a raid in Kharuabandha OP in Assam’s South Salmara Mankachar district on Friday.
The drug peddler has been identified as Nur Islam(38).
The items seized from his posession are 2.33 grams of suspected heroin in two plastic vials, 1,400 yaba tablets contained in 7 plastic packets, 134 numbers empty plastic vials used for drug peddling, Aluminium foils 21 nos and one black colored smartphone.
Police said that the accused has been engaged in drug peddling for several years.
“Examination of his mobile phone has revealed evidence of drug smuggling activities linked to Bangladesh. The accused has confessed supplying of contraband drugs to Bangladesh side by throwing. Further inquiry is ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals involved,” said an police official.
He said that the seizure process and preparation of the seizure list were conducted under videographic documentation in the presence of independent witnesses.
An FIR is being registered, and all necessary legal formalities are underway. The investigation continues to uncover the full extent of the network and other associated miscreants.
