Guwahati, May 13: At least 18 wild elephants were found dead atop of Bamuni Hills in Nagaon district of Assam on Thursday.
Forest officials suspected that the elephants were killed after lightning strike them.
Sources said the elephants were hit by a lightning atop the hill on Wednesday night. Four elephants were partially charred and three elephants were found dead lying on the foothills.
“The local villagers informed us about the death of elephants. We rushed to the spot and found the elephants were lying on the ground. We have sent the dead elephants for postmortem,” said an forest official.
