Guwahati, Jan 8: The troops of Border Security Force (BSF) successfully rescued two civilians on Sunday evening from drowning in Brahmaputra River after the boat the duo was in started to sink.
The incident occurred at around 3:45 PM when the evening patrol team of 45th Battalion of BSF, station at BOP Sishumara, comprising of HC Amarpal Singh and CT Rabari Viram, along with CT Samresh Singh and CT Lakha Bhai, at OP No.22 and No.20, observed a civilian boat suddenly sinking. The sinking boat, enroute from Char Sishumara to Boreralga Ghat in the Brahmaputra River, had two people on board.
Promptly reacting to the situation, the BSF troops on patrol communicated the urgent matter to each other and Coy Cdr Sh. Amarjeet Singh AC. The Coy Comdr of BOP Sishumara immediately ordered the rescue operation, stressing on the need for full protection during the mission.
HC (G) Pappu Singh and CT/crew Vimal Thakur, part of the rescue team, reached the incident site using EFC boat and a speed boat. With coordinated efforts, they successfully rescued the distressed civilians, identified as Ali Akbar Mia (35 yrs) and Sara Ali Seikh (25 yrs), both residents of village Kaliaralga P-I, PS-Kharoabandha, SSM, Assam. Soon after, Coy Cdr Amarjeet Singh also arrived at the scene to inquire about the incident.
