Assam: 2 women injured in acid attack in Lakhimpur

Guwahati, Dec 13: A man attacked two women with acid at Rangajan area in Assam’s Lakhimpur district on Sunday evening.
The victims have been identified as Rehana Begum and Narada Begum of Lakhimpur. Rehana and Narada are sisters.

The acid attacker has been identified as one Rafiqul Islam of Laluk Karunabari in Lakhimpur district.

“Both the victims were immediately rushed to Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital but later shifted to Assam Medical College and Hospital for further treatment,” said a police official.

“Rafiqul and Rehana were married six years ago but they have no children. Both of them were in stress for that reason and sometimes Rafiqul scolded Rehana for having no children,” said a family source.

“After pouring acid on both of them he fled away from the scene. Both the victims shouted and neighbours came to their rescue. They immediately admitted them to Lakhimpur Medical College,” added a police source.
Meanwhile, Lakhimpur police have registered a case and started investigation to nab the accused.

Three years ago, a similar incident was reported from Lakhimpur district of Assam. A college going girl received serious injuries in an acid attack by two youth near Bandardewa area in Lakhimpur. The girl was returning home from Sankardev College.
