Assam: 201 Couples Tie the Knot in Mass Wedding Ceremony in Sonari

Guwahati, March 15: On Wednesday, a mass wedding ceremony was held at Tiok Tea Estate Market Hall in Sonari, Assam where 201 couples performed traditional religious customs to tie the knot.

The Charaideo district Marriage Reform Committee organized the ceremony, which was supported by the Hans Foundation. The couples vowed to stay together for life during the wedding ceremony.

Brides and grooms of several Hindu ethnic groups participated in the ceremony, following their Vedic rituals. The event took place in the presence of devotees, chanting priests, and the fire of the burnt offering.

The wedding ceremony was held for those who couldn’t afford formal marriage. The event even saw the participation of a 60-year-old groom. Thousands of spectators, as well as parents of the bride and groom, witnessed the event. Each couple was also gifted by the organizers.
