Assam: 4 drug suppliers arrested with 36 kg of opium in Amingaon

Guwahati, Nov 8: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam police on Wednesday apprehended four drug suppliers with 36 packets of opium weighing 36 kg in Assam’s Amingaon area.

The four drug suppliers have been identified as Safiqul Ali (39), Mamtul Ali (31), Raju Ajili (35), and Ainul Haque (38).

After getting secret information, the STF team launched an operation under Kamrup Additional SP (HQ) Kalyan Kumar Pathak. The team seized a Bolero pickup bearing registration number (AS 01 QC 9956) and found narcotics items in the vehicle.

According to police, the vehicle was transporting the narcotic items from Manipur.

“During the checking it was detected that narcotics was stored and concealed in secret compartments/chambers in the vehicle. The same were cut open and 36 packets of opium weighing 36 kgs were recovered,” police said.

Last month, the STF team recovered heroin worth Rs 5 crore in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, and two people were arrested in connection with the case.

Acting on a tip-off, police launched a search operation in Khakrajan area in Karbi Anglong district and intercepted a vehicle coming from Dimapur in neighbouring Nagaland October 12 night.
