Guwahati, Jan 18: A 9-year-old girl was killed and 15 others were injured two of them critically when a bus carrying 25 school children veered off the road in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Saturday morning.
The deceased student has been identified as Dalmir Rongpi, a class 3 student at Sacred Heart School.
According to reports, the bus, carrying students from three schools—Sacred Heart School, Saraswati Vidya Mandir, and Garampani High School—lost control at a sharp turn and fell into a field near a cement factory in the Umrangso area of Dima Hasao in the early hours.
All the students were on their way to school, and locals assisted the police in rescuing the students.
Dima Hasao Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar Jha stated, “The bus lost control at a sharp bend in the 19-Kilo area of Umrangso and fell off the road. A 9-year-old girl was declared dead by the doctors, while two others are in critical condition. The rest sustained minor injuries and have been discharged from the hospital.”
Jha added, “We are investigating the cause of the accident, but our immediate focus was on rescuing the students.”
