Guwahati, March 15: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) is preparing to welcome Union Home Minister Amit Shah at its 57th annual conference, set to take place at Bodofa Fwthar, Dotma in Kokrajhar on Sunday. The event, which has already seen three days of engaging discussions, cultural showcases, and leadership reflections, is expected to gain further momentum with Shah’s presence.
Saturday’s session focused on ABSU’s legacy and the broader Bodo movement, featuring the Confluence of Former ABSU Leaders—a tribute to those who played a pivotal role in shaping the organization. The highlight of the day was the launch of “History of All Bodo Students Union and Bodoland Movement – 1967-1993” (Volume 1) by Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Dr. Surath Narzary, chronicling the movement’s journey. Former ABSU president and Assam Handloom and Textile Minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma inaugurated the session with a keynote address on “Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma and the Dream for a Vibrant Bodo Community.”
Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Pramod Boro and other prominent leaders graced the occasion, underscoring the importance of youth empowerment. ABSU president Dipen Boro stressed the need to create opportunities for young minds in literature, sports, and the arts. “A society flourishes when its youth are empowered to lead, innovate, and preserve the legacy of their predecessors,” he said.
On day 3, the education and youth conclave was chaired by Dipen Boro, and focused on ‘Empowering Youth for a Vibrant Bodoland and a Vikshit Bharat.’ Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, BTR Chief Pramod Boro, and ISRO’s Sudhir Kumar deliberated on NEP 2020, regional languages in education, and bridging academia with industry needs.
Bodoland Space & Science Exhibition, a major attraction, highlighted advancements in science and technology, engaging students and researchers alike.
Recognition of excellence: eminent personalities, including Padmashri awardee Dr. Anil Boro, Assam Gaurav awardee Barlangfa Narzary, and Sahitya Akademi awardees, were honored for their contributions. Successful APSC Civil Service candidates from the Bodo community were also felicitated.
The second day featured flag hoisting, debates, and literary competitions, celebrating the region’s rich heritage and intellectual growth.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who could not attend, sent his greetings and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to Bodo-medium education through initiatives like Delhi University’s MIL Department, C-TET recognition, and inclusion in Kendriya and Navodaya Vidyalayas.
Pramod Boro emphasized the growing acceptance of the Bodo language in school and university curricula, calling it a significant step in preserving cultural identity. “Our students are excelling academically and making their mark in various fields, filling us with immense pride,” he said.
