Dibrugarh, April 16: Armed militants attacked an Assam Rifles vehicle carrying a patrol team in Assam’s Tinsukia on Tuesday ahead of Lok Sabha elections. The incident occurred at Tinsukia’s Namdang on Changlang road in Margherita.
It is suspected that NSCN cadres carried out the attack on Assam Rifles. Confirming the incident, Tinsukia superintendent of police Abhijit Gurav stated that the investigation is ongoing, and the police team has already moved to conduct the investigation on what exactly happened. He further stated that no further details can be divulged now.
As per the police official, “the militant groups sneaked into the Indian territory through Arunachal Pradesh to carry out subversive activities. Arunachal Pradesh shares an international boundary with Myanmar and China. The militant groups took advantage of the rough terrain to sneak into India.” He further stated that right now it is difficult to ascertain which militant groups have carried out the attack. After proper investigation, we can say about the group involved in the attack on Assam Rifles vehicle,”.
A joint operation has been launched in Tinsukia and its adjoining areas.
