Assam: Army jawan trampled to death by wild elephant in Narengi cantonment area

Guwahati, Feb 12: In a tragic incident, an army jawan was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Narengi cantonment area in Assam’s Guwahati on Saturday evening.

The deceased army jawan has been identified as Khamliyong Khap, hailing from Dimapur.

According to locals, the army jawan who sustained injuries in the elephant attack was taken to Army Base Hospital at Basistha in Guwahati, where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to reports, elephants often stray out of the nearby Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary in search of food.

The Narengi Army cantonment is located alongside an elephant corridor and often elephants pass through the cantonment area.

“The elephants are often seen in the area because they come out from the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary in search of food,” said a local resident.
