Meticulous planning has gone into managing the delicate and time-sensitive nature of the rescue. According to reports, at least 13 coal miners remain stranded in Coal Mine No. 19, located in Tin Kilo under the jurisdiction of Umrangso police station, after the mine flooded early Monday morning.

Local sources reveal that initially, 27 miners were trapped. Ten managed to escape, leaving between 13 and 17 miners unaccounted for.

Chief Minister Sarma expressed his concern on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Distressing news from Umrangso, where labourers are trapped in a coal mine. The exact number and status are yet unknown. Praying to God for everyone’s safety.”

The Assam government has also mobilized extensive resources to expedite the rescue at the coal mine near the Meghalaya border. As the operation progresses, efforts are focused on ensuring the safe evacuation of the stranded miners.
