Guwahati, June 11: In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old woman was shot dead from point-blank range by assailants in Assam’s Diphu on Monday night. The deceased woman is identified as Sukuri Tishopi.
According to initial reports, the assailants, who are yet to be identified, gained access to the victim’s residence in Diphu through a dug hole.
The woman was staying with two of her cousins, both cousins escaped unharmed in the incident.
“At around 12.30 am on Monday night, they heard a loud sound coming out from the backside of their house. When Sukuri went to see what was happening, she could see one of the assailants had entered the house, and another was outside the house. The one who had entered the house without any provocation shot her from point-blank range,” said a police official.
Both the miscreants are absconding after committing the crime. Meanwhile, police have initiated an investigation to determine the facts.
“We are investigating the case from all angles but are unsure what the motive behind the incident could be. We have sent the body for “postmortem,” said the police.”
