Assam: Autorickshaw driver arrested for allegedly flashing private parts to female student of Assam University

Guwahati, Aug 21: Assam police have arrested an autorickshaw driver for allegedly flashing his private parts before a female passenger.

The incident happened in Assam’s Cachar district. The female passenger is a student of Assam University in Silchar.

The autorickshaw driver has been identified as Badruz Zaman Farque.

According to reports, the autorickshaw driver not only flashed his private part before her but made some vulgar comments and tried to grab her.

The student, who is a resident of West Bengal, said that the incident happened on August 19 when she was heading towards her rental house in Irongmara area after finishing some academic activities on the university campus.

According to her, the driver allegedly asked her to sit in the front seat as the backseat was occupied.

“He was making vulgar comments throughout the journey which I ignored. When I reached the destination and was about to pay the fare, he exposed his private parts before me and gave me an indecent proposal. He also tried to grab me, but I managed to escape,” she stated in the FIR.

“We have registered a case and the accused was arrested. We are interrogating him and proceeding with further investigation,” said a police official.

Meanwhile, Assam University Student Union has condemned the incident and demanded strict action against the accused. “We want strict action against the accused and demand security and safety for the students,” said a student leader.
