Guwahati, July 25: Assam government has banned strikes by employees of oil and gas sector in the state for six months from July 25, under section 3 of the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA), an official notification said on Thursday.
Strikes by the officers, workmen, contract labourers, tanker drivers, and Khalasi involved in the service of oil and gas sector have been prohibited under the Essential Services Maintenance (Assam) Act, 1980, the notification issued by the state political department stated.
The notification has been issued in the public interest and any service in any oil field or refinery of any establishment or undertaking dealing with the production, supply of petroleum products including natural gas will fall under the purview of this order.
