Dibrugarh, Dec 18: A five-member group of suspected ULFA-Independent (ULFA-I) militants allegedly kidnapped a businessman and his company supervisor from a stone mill in Jagun, located in Assam’s Tinsukia district, on Wednesday morning.
The abducted businessman, identified as Bhai Chetry, was later released in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district. However, his supervisor, Prakash Bahadur Chetry, remains in captivity, according to reports.
This is the second such incident in the district in the past two months, underscoring a pattern of abductions and extortion carried out by the ULFA-I. Sources indicate that the group has been particularly active along the Assam-Arunachal border over the last two months, engaging in extortion-related activities.
The frequent kidnappings and extortion attempts in Tinsukia have raised concerns about the region’s security, especially along its border with Arunachal Pradesh. Local authorities are reportedly on high alert, and efforts are underway to secure the release of the captive supervisor.
