Guwahati, Aug 9: The Assam Cabinet on Monday approved Rs 123 crore for the rebuilding of houses damaged during the recent wave of floods.
The cabinet also approved ex-gratia payment to kins of those from the state who were killed in Manipur’s Noney district during the recent floods.
Assam’s Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah in the post-cabinet meeting brief said that each of the families in hill areas whose houses have been either fully or severely damaged in the flood will be given over Rs 1 lakh and over Rs 95,000 to each family in plains areas. “Each family whose pucca house has been partially damaged will be given an assistance of Rs 5200 and Rs 3200 for each partially damaged kucha house. For every cattle head lost, the government will give an assistance of Rs 2100 to the owners,” he said.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently said, “There are around 25,670 houses which are fully damaged and over 2.78 lakh houses partially damaged. We will also extend support to those whose houses were completely washed away. Within the next 15 days a list will be prepared. There will be 10 percent verification of beneficiary in each district. We will spend close to Rs. 400 Crore in this measure.”
