Assam cabinet approves Rs. 1800 cr for micro finance loan waiver

Guwahati, Oct 1: Assam government hasĀ  approved Rs. 1800 crore to provide relief to around 11 lakhs microfinance borrowers (maximum up to Rs. 25,000), who are making regular payments to banks.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the development on Thursday after chairing a meeting of the state cabinet in Dhemaji district.

 
He said that these people will get cheques in December. ā€œOther people willing to take a waiver will apply in a portal which will be opened soon.ā€

Last month, the Government of Assam signed an MoU with Microfinance Institutions for implementation of Assam Micro Finance Incentive and Relief Scheme (AMFIRS), 2021.

The State government would be required to spend close to Rs. 7,200 crores in loan waiver.

Rs. 700 cr for paper mill employees

Sarma said the cabinet has approved a total of Rs 700 crores for the employees and workers of the two paper mills.

CM Sarma said, “A total of Rs 700 crore has been approved. Of the total RS 700 crore, Rs 570 crore has been approved for clearing due salaries of paper mill employees.”

New Tribal belt to be created, OBC certificate for Mottock community

“Dhemaji district’s Dhakuakhana’s Sarikuria tribal belt will be de-notified. Similarly, a new tribal belt will be created encompassing 89 revenue villages of Sissy colony,” Sarma informed.

He said, “We have decided that the Mottock community will now get their OBC certificate from their own community. We have given the responsibility to Sodou Asom Mottock Sanmilan. From now onwards they don’t have to go to OBC board for issuing certificate.”

Rs. 150 cr for Dhemaji flood problem

He said a new stadium will be build in Dhemaji with budget of Rs 50 crore.

“Every year, Dhemaji faced flood problem, so to control the flood problem, we have approved Rs 150 crore for Dhemaji flood problem,” he said.

Sarma also informed that Dibrugarh and Silchar Muncipal Board will be upgraded to Muncipal Corporations.
