Guwahati, May 9: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday urged the people of the state to bring the Bihu celebrations to a graceful end, appealing for the cancellation of all remaining Bihu functions scheduled from May 10 onwards.

In a public message, the Chief Minister expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Assam for their enthusiastic participation in the month-long Rongali Bihu festivities. “Over the past month, we have joyfully celebrated Bihu across Assam through numerous cultural events. I sincerely thank everyone for their enthusiastic participation and contributions,” he said.
Highlighting the vibrant unity and cultural pride that marked the celebrations, Sarma noted that it is now time to conclude the festive season. “I humbly appeal that all remaining Bihu functions scheduled from 10th May onwards be kindly cancelled. Let us bring this vibrant celebration to a graceful close, with the same unity and spirit in which it was celebrated,” he added.

Rongali Bihu, the Assamese New Year, is celebrated with music, dance, and community gatherings across the state. This is the first time a Chief Minister is making such an appeal.
The Chief Minister’s appeal signals a formal end to this year’s Bihu festivities and is seen as a move to encourage a timely return to normalcy and routine public life.
