Guwahati, Mar 4: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday updated Centre about the initial findings of Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Assam police about climate activist Ali Tauqeer Sheikh’s case.
Pakistani climate activist Ali Tauqeer Sheik visited India 18 times between 2010 and 2018, was under the radar of inteligent agencies of India for his frequent visit to India.
Speaking to media persons, Assam Chief Minister said, “I spoke to Union Home Minister about the initial findings of SIT related to Ali Tauqeer Sheikh’s case. The SIT has already found enough evidences in Ali Tauqeer Sheikh’s case and his India visit,”.
“Till 2018, Tauqeer Sheikh visited India many times and many people including Attorney General of Pakistan visited India along with him. The investigation is at preliminary stage but the SIT has got enough evidences related to the case. If necessary, we have take the help of Interpol,” Sarma added.
Assam police have initiated a probe against Sheikh under BNS and UAPA for allegedly abetting offences outside India that endanger the country’s sovereignty and communal harmony.
“The Pakistani man came to India and stayed in some small hotels during their visits. Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and other bureaucrats regularly visited India before Covid 19. So, it was a sensative matter. Investigation is at preliminary stage but more things will comes out as investigation progresses,” Sarma stated.
He said, “The SIT has already registered a case against Ali Tauqeer Sheik and found enough evidences of of him with Assamese people. We have also got the names of professor’s of JNU who have communications with the Pakistani businessmen. The Assamese professors who had frequently communicated with Tauqeer Sheikh which is a very serious issue,”.
Recently, the SIT of the Assam Police has arrived in Delhi on March 1 to investigate the links between Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s wife and Pakistani national and climate policy expert Ali Tauqeer Sheikh. Sheikh, against whom Assam Police have registered a case, previously worked with Elizabeth Gogoi, a British national.
