Guwahati, Oct 27: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed sorrow over the death of BJP worker Bipul Saikia, extending condolences to Saikia’s family and condemning the pre-poll violence in the State. He has also accused Congress of orchestrating the attack that led to Saikia’s death.
Saikia lost his life on Friday, a day after sustaining injuries in violent clash between BJP and Congress supporters in the Kawoimari area under Samaguri constituency, allegedly triggered by accusations from both sides of obstructing each other’s rallies. According to police reports, several others, including journalists, were injured in the confrontation between the two parties on Thursday afternoon.
While police have not confirmed whether Saikia’s death directly resulted from his injuries in the violence, they have acknowledged receiving a report of his passing.
Reacting to Saikia’s demise, CM Sarma accused Congress supporters of orchestrating the attack, asserting that the incident contradicts the Congress party’s stated commitment to constitutional values. “My deepest condolences to the family of our @BJP4Assam karyakarta from Samaguri, Late Bipul Saikia, who was violently attacked and killed by goons of @INCAssam,” Sarma posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.
“Those responsible will be held accountable. This crime is a grim reminder of the Congress’ deception, those who chant “Samvidhan Bachao” are the very ones orchestrating poll violence and undermining democracy. The sacrifice of our karyakartas shall not go in vain,” he added.
