Assam CM launches ‘Amrit Brikshya Andolan’, aims world record for planting most saplings in a day

Guwahati, Sept 09: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday launched ‘Amrit Brikshya Andolan’ where the people of the state will plant 1 crore seedling on September 17.

Talking to media persons, MK Yadava, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF), said, “Today is a very happy day for Assam Forest Department especially when we are in the 150th year of the department. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the ‘Amrit Brikshya Andolan’ where people will plant 1 crore saplings in one day from 9 am to 12 pm on September 17. In a run up to this event, we are aiming to create few Guinness World Record, one of which is the longest spiral.”

“I am still looking; we are gathering information and evidences. We have to make sure that it is a line, one single line. I know that it was over 21 kms but have to measure it accurately. The critical factor is number of saplings, so we have make sure of accurate count. So, we are still going through this process. It will be a brand-new record and we like new records,” said Pravin Patel, the, Guinness World Record adjudicator.

The categories under which Assam is eyeing records include: largest line/spiral of saplings, largest number of seedlings distributed in one day at one venue, Most trees planted by a team in 24 hours, most trees planted in 1 hour, largest planted tree mosaic, most trees planted by a team of 100 in an hour, largest photo album of people planting trees, most pledge taken to plant trees and to protect them, largest nature conservation lesson in online mode.

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that around 1.46 crore seedlings of 53 commercially valuable species have been mobilized of which 1.17 crore seedlings have been mobilized via competitive bidding.

As on 5th September, 2023, 68 lakh seedlings have already been delivered to various Stocking Points across the state. This initiative will promote tree economy in the State and will attract new investment in the wood-based industry sector as over Rs. 5000 crore is expected to be added to the state in the period of next 5-10 years from the trees planted under the programme.

For the programme, 47,34,465 beneficiaries have registered online through the mobile app.
