Guwahati, June 8: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that 1 crore saplings will be planted in the state on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti this year.
He said this will be done to extend green cover in the State & give fillip to a tree economy.
CM Sarma said as a mark of gratitude, the state government will reward individuals with ₹100 on planting a sapling & further ₹200 if it survives for 3 years.
Sarma said this while addressing a gathering on the occasion of the Amrit Plantation Programme’ at Chandubi, Kamrup.
Chief Minister also said that individuals who will be planting these 1 crore saplings will have to register themselves on the web portal along with the geo-location.
Talking on the Assam Forest Regulation, 1891, CM Sarma said that now the regulation has been amended, this shall allow people to plant commercial trees and can be be used for felling without the government’s conscience.
