Assam CM slams Bengal, Jharkhand govts for ‘soft stand’ on Rohingya infiltration

Must read

Guwahati, Aug 1: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday came down heavily on Bengal and Jharkhand government for taking ‘soft stand’ on Rohingya infiltration issue.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Wednesday, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “West Bengal and Jharkhand governments have been soft towards Rohingya infiltration issue. Rohingyas are still utilizing the border situation of India and Bangladesh because large areas are porous. In Assam, we are still guarding but Assam is only a part of India-Bangladesh border.”

“Recently, Tripura police have arrested large numbers of Rohingyas. Rohingya penetration to India has increased many fold. Last year, Assam police have busted a network and later NIA investigated it. The central government should pick up the issue of Rohingyas with West Bengal government,” Sarma stated.

He further said, “The chief minister of West Bengal has taken soft stand against Rohingya issue and infiltration and its demography has been changing” due to the appeasement policies, and the entire country is suffering.

Calling the situation ‘grim’, he said, “You don’t wait for census, just see 2024 voter list and 2019 voter list for the change in demography. Assam is no longer a safe haven for illegal immigrant because after BJP came into power, we have taken control of the situation. But Bengal and Jharkhand are silent on this serious issue.”

“Soft policy towards Rohingya infiltration don’t work. If we do not stop it, the entire country will face demographic invasion,” Sarma warned.
