Assam CM slams Rahul Gandhi, alleges ₹2,000 Cr scam in National Herald Case

Must read

Guwahati, Apr 16: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him and his family of profiting from the National Herald —— an entity registered as a non-profit.

CM Sarma questioned the financial dealings surrounding the case and mocked the Congress’s ongoing protests.

Speaking to reporters, Sarma alleged that after the Gandhi family took over the National Herald, its net worth skyrocketed to ₹2,000 crore. “It’s a Section 9 company, not meant to make profits—yet it was doing just that,” he said. “Rahul Gandhi criticizes industrialists like Adani and Ambani for making profits, but where did he learn the trick of turning ₹50 lakh into ₹2,000 crore? If he teaches me that formula, I can change the fate of Assam.”

Sarma also took a swipe at Congress’s protests over the Enforcement Directorate’s chargesheets against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. “Instead of protesting, the Congress should ask the Gandhis to return the ₹2,000 crore to the party. That would at least help them renovate their run-down offices—just look at the condition of Rajiv Bhawan in Assam,” he said.

The Chief Minister expressed sympathy for grassroots Congress workers, saying they were the ones suffering while the party’s top leaders “mint money.” “It’s Rahul Gandhi’s duty to appear before the court and prove his innocence,” he added.
