Guwahati, Feb 24: The Leader of the Opposition (LO) in the Assam Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, submitted two petitions to the Speaker on Friday, requesting him to disqualify Congress MLAs Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Basanta Das.
The duo recently announced their support for the Assam BJP Government without leaving the party.
Leading the Congress delegation, Saikia presented the petitions to Speaker Biswajit Daimary and urged him to immediately disqualify the two members from the membership of the Assam Assembly.
Earlier, both MLAs were suspended after they failed to respond to the show cause notices they were served, following their announcement of allegiance to the BJP-led Assam state government.
